[. . . ] • Do not install the appliance in places exposed to direct sunlight or near heat sources since this will increase power consumption. • With built-in appliances, do not obstruct the ventilation grilles (see “Care and Maintenance” chapter). • With free-standing appliances, remove accumulated dust from the condenser at the rear of the appliance at least once a year (see “Care and Maintenance” chapter). • Limit the frequency of door opening of both refrigerator and freezer compartments. [. . . ] The thermostat, located inside the refrigerator compartment, is used to adjust refrigerator compartment temperature; the freezer compartment does not require any temperature adjustments. For correct operation and optimum storage of food, follow instructions given in the enclosed product sheet for thermostat adjustment. To adjust the temperature in the refrigerator compartment, set the thermostat control knob to: •the lowest numbers 1-2 for the LEAST COLD internal temperatures; •numbers 3-4 for a MEDIUM internal temperature ; •the highest numbers 5-7 for the COLDEST internal temperatures. Note: The ambient air temperature, frequency of door opening and the position of the appliance can affect internal temperatures. Switching on the appliance How to use the refrigerator compartment Position the food as shown in the figure. A Cooked food B Fish, meat C Fruit and vegetables D Bottles E Eggs F Cheese Note: • The space between the shelves and the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment must be unobstructed to allow circulation of air. • Do not place food in direct contact with the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment. Important: Storing vegetables with high water content can cause condensation to form on the glass shelf of the crisper drawer: this will not affectthe correct operation of the appliance. This compartment can be used to store frozen foods for the period of time indicated on packaging. The freezer can also be used to freeze fresh food by positioning it on the rack; place frozen food in the lower part of the compartment so that there is no contact with fresh food that has yet to be frozen. The quantity of fresh food that can be frozen in 24 hours is indicated on the data plate (at the side of the crisper drawer). • Remove the food from the freezer, wrap in newspaper and group together in a cool place or in a portable cooler. • Clean the interior with a sponge soaked in warm water and/or neutral detergent. Note: Do not use sharp or pointed metal instruments to scrape off ice; do not heat the freezer compartment artificially • Rinse the interior and dry thoroughly. Built-in appliances • Periodically clean air vents with a vacuum cleaner or a brush (A) Freestanding appliances • Periodically clean the condenser at the rear of the appliance with a vacuum cleaner or a brush (B) A Prolonged disuse 1. In the event of prolonged disuse, leave the door open to prevent the formation of mould, odours and oxidation. The following situations, meanwhile, are entirely normal: • The front edge of the appliance is hot (it is designed to heat up in order to prevent the formation of condensation on the outside). • The appliance makes gurgling or creaking noises: this is caused by the circulation of the refrigerant fluid. See if you can solve the problem yourself with the help of the Trouble-shooting guide. If it has not, disconnect the appliance from the power supply and wait for about an hour before switching on again. [. . . ] • Voltage and power consumption are indicated on the rating plate (at the side of the crispers). Freestanding appliances (not built-in) • The following minimum distances must be observed: •30 cm from coal or paraffin stoves; •3 cm from electric and/or gas stoves. • To optimize appliance efficiency, leave a 5 cm gap above the appliance and make sure that adjacent kitchen units are sufficiently distanced to allow air circulation. • Fit the spacers (if supplied) on the rear of the appliance (see figure).
